RediMed Urgent Care Clinics Now Offering InstyMeds™ Dispensing Machines

Three RediMed urgent care clinics in Fort Wayne and one in Huntington are offering the InstyMedsTM Dispensing Machine, a cutting-edge technology that conveniently, accurately and safely delivers prescription medications inside RediMed clinics. It's as easy as getting cash from an ATM.

A clinician uses a Web-based application to record the patient's prescription information after the exam. The patient, whose prescription coverage was preapproved at registration via the patient's drug benefits card, is asked if he or she wants to pick up the prescription at a drug store or obtain it through the dispensing machine in the clinic. If the patient prefers InstyMedsTM, the physician selects this option in the computer, which prompts the computer to assign a unique numerical identifier to that prescription. The patient then enters the code into the machine. Within two minutes, the machine selects the appropriate prepackaged medication, scans it three times for verification and releases it to the patient. A nurse reviews instructions and precautions with the patient for each medication dispensed.

The machine is stocked with about 70 different types of medications-those most commonly prescribed at RediMed. Patients can pay their co-pay with a credit or debit card. RediMed patients will have access to InstyMedsTM machine only at the time of their visit, and refills are not an InstyMedsTM option.

A phone located on the dispenser will automatically connect the patient with an InstyMedsTM pharmacist or a billing technician if there are prescription, co-pay or insurance questions.

"RediMed is always looking for ways to improve clinic visits for our patients" said Dan Konow, RediMed CEO. "Now a mother with a sick child in tow who needs to get home as soon as possible or anyone who simply doesn't feel well doesn't have to wait. Patients can walk out of the clinic with their prescriptions in hand."
